Planning Committee nixes oil fracking plan

SPNI celebrates the Planning Committee decision to preserve the Elah Valley from fracking

The Jerusalem District Planning and Building Committee rejected a plan to erect a pilot facility to produce oil from shale in the Judean lowlands. The rejection was a near unanimous decision.

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel had campaigned for years in opposition to the project and praised the decision. SPNI spokesman, Dov Greenblat said, " became clear that many questions remained unanswered about the impact of oil shale production and that the damage was liable to exceed the benefit."
