Speaker(s): Michelle Levine, ASPNI Outreach Director

Levine discusses Israel's rapid transformation, from her early pioneering days 100 years ago to today’s landscape. While celebrating Israel’s achievements and environmental successes, such as the creation of the state's national parks, nature reserves and the Nature and Parks Authority itself, environmental problems were also created in the process. More recently, with Kyoto Accord “developing nation” status, Israel has not yet approached western progressive standards, such as the requirement to perform Environmental Impact Assessments before major development projects. Israel’s public bodies still think in the short term, and mistakes made now will impact the country for centuries.
