Man-made Lake in Rishon Letzion Becomes Bird Habitat

Rishon Letzion has a rainwater reservoir next to an amusement park.  This reservoir, known as Lake Superland, has been taken over by mother nature and is now home to a variety of species.  These species include commonly found birds such as seagulls and much rarer birds such as the ferruginous duck.  The vegetation in the lake provides a natural buffer from the nearby movie theater and amusement park.  SPNI is looking to protect this habitat from additional development and requesting that the municipality declare Lake Superland as a nature reserve.  Although the municipality has not promised anything, it has halted construction in the area and Mayor Dov Tzur visited the lake.
