All creatures great and small, stuck behind a fence
Earth Day events will be held today in Israel and throughout the world to demonstrate support for environmental protection. In Israel one of the main points of focus will be on the conservation of nature in a country dense with roads, fences and various barriers. Wild animals suffer most from this density, which limits their movements. Fences are a big part of the problem.
Lately, SPNI documented many fences being constructed in vineyards in the Jerusalem area, which block the passing of gazelles. "The development of industrial agriculture in the Judaen hills are is a serious threat to nature and bio-diversity," says Avraham Shaked, SPNI's Jerusalem area planning coordinator. "The situation is deteriorating daily"
