Urban Nature Under Threat
Open spaces within Israel's growing municipalities are increasingly threatened by development. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel works to preserve these open spaces and green areas, remaining pieces of nature that are home to a wealth of biodiversity.
As one of the world's designated biodiversity hotspots, preserving open spaces in Israel has a global impact. Half a billion of the world's migratory birds depend on available open spaces in Israel for food and respite during their migration. The species native to the area are endangered, across borders, due to development throughout the region.
Preserving these open spaces now, means protecting endangered wildlife for future generations.
