Palmahim Air Force Soldiers Take to Biking
A new program, called Palmahim Riders, is promoting preservation and awareness of nature. The program has donated 40 bicycles to the Palmahim air force base, allowing soldiers to gain a new appreciation for the environment. Bike paths have been set up around the Palmahim area that provide a look at the ecosystem. This initiative was created by SPNI and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority with financial support from the Hoopoe Foundation. The soldiers at the base have been working tirelessly to fight off two invasive plant species, the Golden aster weeds and Acacia saligna trees. For their work they have received a biodiversity award from SPNI’s the Jerusalem Bird Observatory.
