Israeli Bird Expert Wins 25,000-Euro German Prize
Every two years the Bruno H. Schubert Foundation presents three awards for work relating to protecting the environment. This year Professor Yossi Leshem, a zoological expert from SPNI and Tel Aviv University, won one of the three awards. Leshem received the award for his work promoting owls and falcons as biological pesticides in Israel. He also worked on tracking storks migrating from Germany through Israel, reduced accidents between Israel’s Air Force and birds by 76 percent and brought together Israelis, Jordanians, and Palestinians to help protect barn owls and kestrels.
