Government Approves Rail to Eilat

Gov't okays rail line despite flak

Despite the economic expense of the project, a ministerial committee approved a plan for the Eilat Railway project. The project will run through six nature reserves in the Negev, with a total of 37 km (23 miles) of railway going through these reserves. The line is intended to connect the Eilat port with the Ashdod port, but plans for this connection have not yet been completed. The environmental impact of the infrastructure and construction is expected to be extensive.
