Destruction of Disused Army Posts Spells the End for Bat Colonies

The demolition of abandoned military posts has caused harm to the Trident bat population. Between 500 and 600 Trident bats lived in two military posts at Tel Yishmael.  With the destruction of these posts it is believed that hundreds of these bats have been killed.  The Defense Ministry stated that after multiple attempts at contacting the parks authority, without any response, they went ahead with the demolition of the posts.  Abandoned military posts throughout the Jordan Valley are considered bat sanctuaries.  There are 12 different species that have been found at these posts.
